少室阙，Shaoshi Towers，天地之中历史建筑群国家文物之一，位于河南省登封市嵩山南麓邢家铺村西，距城六公里的少室山下，约建于东汉元初五年至延光二年(118～123年)，是汉代少室山庙的神道阙。1961年中华人民共和国国务院公布为全国重点文物保护单位。联合国教科文组织第34届世界遗产大会2010年8月1日审议通过，将“天地之中”8处11项历史建筑列为世界文化遗产，包括少林寺建筑群(常住院、初祖庵、塔林)、东汉三阙(太室阙、少室阙、启母阙)和中岳庙、嵩岳寺塔、会善寺、嵩阳书院、观星台。

少室山和少室阙
少室山是嵩山的一部分，共有三十六峰，山峦叠翠，景色十分秀丽。根据史书记载，少室山曾是夏禹之妻涂山氏之妹的居所，传说其亦为夏禹之妃，所以该地又俗称“少室庙”为“少姨庙”。
阙壁雕刻
少室阙保存较为完整，东西两阙的结构基本相同，两阙一南一北，相互对峙，东阙高3.37米，西阙通高3.75米，两阙相距6.75米。阙身由正阙和副阙两部分组成。正阙以长方形石块垒砌而成，顶部用巨石雕成四阿式，高3.96米，宽1.82米;副阙象征着围墙，因此比正阙低1.31米，顶部为半个四阿顶。北阙雕刻有篆字“少室神道阙”题额，南阙的隶书题铭大部分都已剥落，漫漶不可辨识。阙壁的四周遍饰用减地平雕刻法雕成的彩画，共计有六十余幅，这些画的主要内容包括车马出行、马戏、驯象、月宫以及动物图案等，其中的马戏图雕刻有两匹骏马，骏马腾空飞驰，前一匹马鞍上有一名挽双丫髻的少女，穿着紧身衣裤，倒立在马背上，后一匹马上有一女子舒展长袖随风飘扬，人体自然后倾，这些表现手法充分地显示出了奔马飞奔时的情形和马戏的惊险技艺。汉代的雕刻手法十分夸张，风格则显得飘逸自然，这些彩画是汉代雕刻艺术的代表作。
少室阙的画像及装饰图案是研究古代雕刻、美术史的珍贵资料，铭文更是早为历代金石学家所珍重。另外，汉以前的建筑，既无实物存在，记载又多简略，想弄清它的形象、结构是很困难的。作为祠庙前的神道阙，在阙上不仅雕有奇禽异兽、人物故事，而且还雕刻出建筑的框架结构及各个构件的外形，这就为研究汉代建筑提供了难得的实物例证。
始建年代
少室山庙，又称少室祠、少姨庙，明代初期坍毁。少室山庙和太室山庙始建于秦，汉安帝时在庙前建阙。阙后有一东西长60余米、南北宽40余米的平台，地面散布许多绳纹砖、筒瓦、板瓦等汉代建筑构件，当为少室山庙旧址。据杨炯撰《唐少姨庙碑记》可知，少室庙唐代改称少姨庙，其神为妇人像。相传少姨为涂山氏之妹。元代时又把“少姨”作为蚕神嫘祖来奉祀。元代杨奂游中岳时曾在少姨庙即兴赋诗曰：“路旁双阙老，蔓草入荒祠;时见山家女，烧香乞蚕丝。”
少室阙始建年代，因阙铭仅残存“三月三日”4字，故不得而知。据叶井叔《嵩阳石刻记》载：少室阙题铭为篆书，可拓摹者，只有22行，除3、7、19等3行已没有文字外，余每行4字。从阙铭中君丞零陵以下的题名“泉陵薛政”、“五官椽阴林”、“户曹史夏效”、“两河圜阳长冯宝”、“廷椽赵穆”、“户曹史张诗”、“将作椽严寿”等，和启母阙题名中的官职姓名均相同，而且两阙的形制也很相似，可推知少室阙的建造年代可能与启母阙同，亦为颍川太守朱宠建于汉文帝延光二年(123年)前后。
